The celebration continues as these owners take delivery of their second PC60 new build.

When Horizon Power Catamarans (HPC) launched its first model – a PC60 – the world took notice. “To understand the Horizon PC60 power catamaran, you need to put aside preconceived notions about midsize yacht amenities,” wrote the GOAT of yachting journalism, Chris Caswell, in Yachting Magazine. Lauded for its unparalleled space and thoughtful boater-specific details, the PC60 model quickly became one of the top-sellers on the power catamaran market.

In 2013, HPC launched Hull 3 of the PC60 model, a spacious catamaran with an on-deck master stateroom. In 2020, she was discovered by owners who named her Indigo. A few years later, when contemplating a new yacht build, these owners took the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach and commissioned another PC60. This summer, they took delivery of Hull 31 of this wildly successful model, and named her Indigo in a christening ceremony at the Horizon Power Catamaran marina office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Indigo benefits from a decade of the PC60 model’s design and technological evolution, but her overall layout remains largely unchanged. The first Indigo was configured with an on-deck master stateroom, which the owners enjoyed and elected to maintain for this Indigo. Three additional staterooms are positioned in the hulls. Her interior is one of contemporary elegance, with bright whites, smooth creams, and, of course, brilliant splashes of deep indigo blues.

As with all new power catamaran builds from Horizon, Indigo is equipped with Horizon’s latest power management package – an advanced Victron phosphate battery package paired with a Termodinamica variable speed air conditioning system for minimal generator usage and maximum efficiency.

This system works in tandem to minimize generator usage and maximize onboard comfort. Coupled with a phosphate battery package from Victron, the Termodinamica variable speed, freon-cooled air conditioning system keeps the interior cool, dry, and quiet for nearly 20 hours on battery power alone.

In addition to her spacious aft deck and Hi/Lo swim platform, Indigo features a semi-enclosed flybridge to maximize indoor/outdoor living opportunities. This will be particularly enjoyed by her owners as they cruise The Bahamas and the Caribbean, as well as charter guests, as Indigo II is planned for charter in the BVI. A new PC60 is now in build for first-time powercat owners

We are proud to have achieved a significant milestone in our 15-year history with the sale of the 60th power catamaran — a brand new PC60, now in build for first-time powercat owners.

Since our founding in 2009, when company CEO Richard Ford forged a relationship with the renown production boat yard, Horizon Yachts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and created Horizon Power Catamarans, the Horizon powercat range has grown to include the PC52, PC60, PC68 and larger fully custom models. Having sold and built an average of four new boats per year, the company has attracted a strong client following for its advanced composites builds that includes sailors, catamaran owners and former monohull owners.

This newest PC60 has been designed with an On-Deck Master configuration as well as an open flybridge with a dayhead. Boarding from the stern, the expansive aft deck greets visitors and immediately conveys the volume and space afforded by the 61’ 7” yacht. Stairs to port lead up to the open flybridge and boat deck, while to starboard a wet bar and storage provide service to the large dining table and curved settee.

The main interior living area aboard the PC60 is comprised of a large open galley to starboard and a welcome U-shaped lounge area to port. The master stateroom occupies the full 24’ 6” beam of the main deck forward and is filled with natural light from the wraparound windows. Three additional guest cabins are positioned in the hulls. The starboard hull houses a VIP ensuite and a twin, while the port hull houses an ensuite twin as well as the master ensuite forward.

The owners specified an open flybridge configuration with a single helm chair at the navigation station bookended by raised settees to port and starboard. A dinette and wraparound settee are positioned aft to starboard while a wet bar area is found to port. Furthest aft, the open boat deck is equipped with a crane for launching the tender and is an inviting al fresco space for entertaining when the tender is deployed. A dayhead on this level adds to the convenience.

Unlike most production yacht builders, Horizon Power Catamarans uniquely offers a high level of customization with each build. Owners work alongside company co-founder Leigh Ford on outfitting their interior to their desired preferences and each yacht is outfitted with precise detail for maximum functionality. This extra attention to each build includes the incorporation of new technologies that offer improved performance, safety and onboard living.

VIEW OUR PC60 MODEL

The stars have aligned and The Powercat Company is pleased to announce that not one, but five Horizon PowerCats are now available on the brokerage market.

The yachts include the PC52 Magic, PC60 Homarus, PC60 Seament, the PC65 Cellfish and the PC65 Castina.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a buyer looking to acquire a power catamaran of the highest caliber without waiting for a build slot,” says The Powercat Company sales manager Jason Ford.

Delivered in 2018, the PC52 Magic sleeps six in three staterooms with two heads and is configured with a large galley and salon on the main deck as well as a semi-enclosed flybridge. Featuring Horizon’s advanced composites construction and SCRIMP infusion methods, Magic boasts a 400nm range at 18 knots with a max speed of 21 knots thanks to her twin 550hp Cummings with 740 hours.

The PC60 Homarus is a gem of a boat. Built in 2021, this four-stateroom, four-head powercat has been maintained in excellent condition by an extremely knowledgeable owner. She features the preferred on deck master, enclosed skylounge, Hi-Lo transom lift, upgraded MAN I-6 800hp diesel engines, dual generators, SpotZero water maker, custom high end interior and much more.

The 2016 PC60 Seament is a captain-maintained yacht that has had numerous upgrades in the last two years. It was repowered in 2023 with new QSM11s that have a total of 650 hours. Other upgrades include a new main generator, new soft goods, a new second redundant water maker, three new chillers and new SeaDek flooring.

Cellfish is Horizon PC65 built in 2019. Featuring a four-stateroom layout and an enclosed skylounge with a dayhead, Cellfish boasts a 25 knot top speed and a 22 knot cruise courtesy of her twin 1,000hp Caterpillar C12-9 engines.

Built in 2020, Castina is an exceptionally well-equipped Horizon PC65 offers ease of handling with an upper helm station, docking stations to port and starboard in the cockpit and a DockMate remote docking station as well. The owners’ cabin is position forward on the main deck with its large galley that will satisfy the most fastidious of chefs. One deck above, a fully enclosed flybridge with soft back and opening side windows offers superior living and entertaining.

Horizon Powercats implements an inventive power management package.

Richard Ford, founder and CEO of The Powercat Company focusing on the Horizon Power Catamaran line, was proud to tell guests aboard the PC60 and PC68 yachts at the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show about the company’s new lifestyle concept: Silent Living. It didn’t have anything to do with whispering but everything to do with Horizon Powercats power management system.

“We were doing an orientation with a new owner over in Bimini,” tells Ford. “Every time I drove my dinghy up to their boat, the owners couldn’t stop saying, ‘We’re sitting here and there’s no generator,’ yet the air conditioning was on. They were so excited about that, about the quiet.”

The “quiet” Ford speaks of is a result of an advanced lithium phosphate battery package managed by Victron Energy paired with a Termodinamica variable speed air conditioning system for minimal generator usage and maximum efficiency. The Freon-cooled air conditioning system keeps the interior cool, dry, and quiet for nearly 20 hours on battery power alone. The Victron system is basically a power grid that can monitor and control the vessel’s electrical equipment from the air conditioner to the lights to the galley to the washer/dryer to all the electronics.

The first phosphate battery system came into the Horizon PCs five years ago. “We now have nine yachts with them,” says Ford. “We tweaked the system. The way it is today is completely different to anybody else’s; it’s an evolution of what we wanted to do.”

The Victron phosphate battery that drives inverter chargers to run a yacht is already available, but, Ford says, “we’ve had a few nuances done; it’s been customized.” He’s happy now to show it off “because it’s tried and tested.” The Victron system has been so successful in the Horizon PC models that it is now a standard power package in the PC52, PC60, PC68, and larger custom power catamaran models.

Victron phosphate batteries are used in the Horizon Powercat yachts for good reason—they are stable and safe. Many hear the word lithium and think fire because of the lithium-ion battery’s reputation in smaller electronics, such as phones, e-scooters, and the like and feel that’s the last thing any boat owner would want on board. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, also designated as LiFePO4 batteries, are much safer. Both batteries have similarities, but differ in performance, longevity, and chemical composition.

“LiFePO4 batteries have covalent bonds between the iron, phosphorus, and oxygen atoms in the cathode,” explains EcoFlow, a team of engineers specializing in energy solutions. “The bonds make them more stable and less prone to thermal runaway and overheating, issues that have led to lithium-ion batteries having a reputation for a higher risk of battery fires.”

Testing by the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) also confirmed that “…when treated and installed correctly, LiFePO4 deserves a chance, and that the boat-owning end users will benefit from these products. …Also, we need to consider them not just as batteries, but as a complete system with associated technology that has the potential to vastly improve the safety of a DC power plant,” including a battery management system as noted in ABYC E-13 Standards. Battery management systems can diagnose conditions within a battery pack and make autonomous decisions to shut off batteries with hot spots or alter the load distribution so that any individual battery does not get too hot. That’s one of the primary features of the Victron Energy system.

Whether a short fishing trip or an ocean sail, reliable power is a must; however, it may not be enough. Victron believes in “optimal energy,” when an intelligent power grid can adapt to any challenges and manage the yacht’s electrical loads. PowerAssist prevents overloads by using the battery as a buffer during peak demand. The inverter/charger offers resilience when shore power or a generator experiences current fluctuation. Victron’s solar controller gets the most from solar panels. If a generator is installed, the Victron system can reduce generator use and minimize running time, perhaps allowing the owner to install a smaller generator. “Coupled with other areas of energy savings, such as propane-fueled cooking, solar-powered systems, and large alternators,” adds Ford, “the Victron/Termodinamica package goes a long way in mitigating energy consumption while making for an extremely comfortable and enjoyable cruising experience.”

The Horizon Powercat Victron power management system has demonstrated an 84 percent improvement in energy efficiencies while offering many convenient “smart” features such as remote monitoring and auto generator start/stop. Ford says that Horizon Powercats are now able to reduce generator size due to the efficient air-conditioning system coupled with the unique assist mode from the batteries. With such efficiency, the generator isn’t required as often, and that alone is quiet living.

Horizon Power Catamarans has launched a new PC52, the entry-level yacht in its fleet.

A three-stateroom, two-head cruiser, the 52 is designed for comfortable living even on extended cruises. With twin 550-hp Cummins diesels, the Horizon PC52 has a top speed of 22 knots, and a range of more than 1,000 nm at 8.4 knots.

Horizon calls the new 52 “a power catamaran for cruising connoisseurs.” The high bridge deck clearance will minimize pounding even in a head sea. And the shallow (4’3”) draft makes it attractive for cruising in skinny water destinations, such as the Bahamas. The cat has a semi-displacement hull shape with a half-keel to protect the props and rudders. You actually could beach the boat if the bottom were soft enough.

Up top, the fully enclosed skylounge provides comfortable living no matter what the weather is outside. It has a centered helm seat with U-shaped settee and table to port, an upper galley and bar to starboard, and an open boat deck (or sunning platform) aft.

The salon is virtually surrounded by wraparound windows. A home-like galley is on the starboard side; three stools make it a social space for coffee or snacks. The dinette is forward, with lounges and lots of seating.

The aft deck is protected by the overhang from the boat deck above. It has a curved lounge against the transom with a large table, and a bar area forward.

Stairs on each side of the salon lead down to the accommodations deck. The master suite and head occupy the entire starboard hull; the other cabins are in the port hull.

Led by The Powercat Company in Fort Lauderdale, Horizon has been making power cats in Taiwan since 2009, and has made 60 of them so far. The models now include the 52, 60, 68, and an all-custom 74. Base price for the 52 is $1.7 million.

Horizon Power Catamarans, which celebrated the launch of its 50^th hull last year, has introduced a 52-footer that is now the entry point into its powercat line.

Up top, you’ll find an enclosed skylounge great for all climates, and on the main deck, there’s an open plan with an impressive salon and generous galley. Accommodations include three cabins with the master suite and head commanding the entire starboard hull.
