With the highly successful PC60 and PC52 as the base line, we focused on designing an exquisite power catamaran, with the goal to be known and referred to as The Ultimate Cruising Yacht. Defining what this encompassed included a complex set of criteria, and ultimately we set about redefining luxury and comfort.
Firstly, all the key elements were carefully identified, with an extensive “Must Have” list that formed the basis of the design and a “Wish List”that further refined the parameters and stretched the design limits. It is worthy to note that the sea keeping, structural integrity and safety remain the backbone of all our design’s, particularly on our new and larger PC74.
It is fair to say that every design has some limitations and compromises. Minimizing these without negatively affecting functionality, comfort, luxury, sea keeping and efficiency of the yacht is a challenge that we not only embraced, but also overcame through a cohesive, focused effort from our highly skilled and experienced team.
DESIGN – NAVAL ARCHITECTURE – MANUFACTURING:
The modern clean lines of the PC74 have been skillfully created from the drawing board of renowned designer, JC Espinosa of ESPINOSA INC. Known for his charm and flamboyant character, but more so for his flair for designing very elegant mega yachts, JC Espinosa has produced a stunningly beautiful catamaran with free flowing lines, a superstructure that is pleasing to the eye and draws your attention to study her complex “simplicity”. He has also created a luxurious, plush interior, which will set her apart. She certainly will appeal to the “Cruising Connoisseur”.
Lavranos Marine Design is the naval architect for the Horizon PC Series, including the PC74. The highly efficient, semi displacement symmetric hulls are the result of decades of catamaran hull design and development. Angelo Lavranos is an intriguing, insightful visionary. Having studied philosophy, his understanding of the way the World works will entertain you, especially once the subject of yacht design gets to technical to follow.
The PC74’s demanding design brief set many challenging naval architectural parameters, resulting in elegant solutions being found for all of the design requirements, thanks to; Decades of catamaran hull design and development, several hundred catamarans launched to Lavranos Marine’s Design, and extensive data generated from tank tests undertaken at the University of Taipei, Taiwan, plus CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools to assist us in predicting the hydrodynamic performance of these often-unconventional hull forms, including resistance and powering.
The design analysis of the PC74 was performed using the hydrodynamic design suite “Flow CFD”, which is a thoroughly validated RANS code, specifically developed for surface problems. Typical applications include Resistance (friction and pressure drag), Wave Profiles and Wake, in regular and irregular waves.
As a precursor to the PC74 design, calculations were performed on the PC60. The resistance of the PC60 was compared to twice the resistance of a single hull to study the effect of wave interference between the two hulls on the resistance characteristics. We determined, by optimizing the design, that at higher speeds, the wavelength is long enough and the diverging wave wedge angle sharp enough, that the two bow wave crests interfere near the aft part of the hull and thus helps with lift and the aft hull pressure recovery.
The concept, design brief, specification and overall requirements are set out by The Powercat Company (DBA – Horizon Power Catamarans), who not only fully understand the requirements of both cruising and chartering, but what it takes to ensure the livability, comfort and safety of extended cruising aboard catamarans. The Powercat Company has always adopted a no compromise approach, from design to delivery, with special emphasis on after sales support. It will be tough to find a more passionate and devoted group of individuals that know more about catamarans than the Powercat Company.Richard Ford and Stuart Hegerstrom look forward to discussing your personal yachting needs, so that Horizon Yachts can custom build your Ultimate Cruising Yachtto your exacting requirements.
Most importantly, the yacht is built using the highly technical and sophisticated construction techniques employed by Horizon Yachts, including Horizon’s modified 3D SCRIMPÔ resin infusion system, Infrared hull testing, in-house leak testing, material strength testing, CNC cutting and Horizon’s quality assurance. The PC74 further benefits from Horizon’s 30 year’s experience with over 700 large luxury yachts built that have been honored with numerous prestigious International awards. Horizon Yacht’s atmosphere is refreshingly courteous, with a friendly, family like quality. Their hallmark and inherent culture of striving for perfection is very apparent and has permeated throughout the company through the leadership of the highly talented and charismatic Horizon Group CEO, John Lu.
Horizon prides itself on being an industry leader in custom luxury yacht building, and the numerous dedicated naval architects, engineers and skilled craftsmen assigned to the PC74 project will ensure she is custom built to their customary, highest international standard,so that every client’s expectation is exceeded and that their buying and boating experience is nothing short of being extremely pleasurable.
COMFORT, SPACE AND AMENITIES:
The Horizon PC74 is a magnificent, luxurious cruising yacht that offers the comfort, privacy, amenities and space one would typically only find on much larger motor yachts but without the associated purchase and running costs. She will appeal to a broad segment of yacht owners, either for private use or for charter.
Key elements of the PC74 are; Elegance, Stability, Efficiency, Performance, Luxury, Space, Privacy, Amenities, Safety, Maneuverability, Ease of Maintenance and Eye Catching Dock Appeal. It is fair to say that no other yacht of her size offers everything that we have successfully designed on the PC74.
The well esteemed owner will appreciate the main deck, with all the primary living areas on a single level, including the massive aft deck with dining for 10 and lounging for 8, a bar and ample storage lockers. The large salon offers seating for 8, separate inside formal dining for 8, gourmet galley with island and bar with 4 stools. Forward on the main deck is the glamorous full beam master stateroom with walk around King bed, 180 degree views, spacious en-suite bathroom, sofa, vanity and ample storage.
The lower decks offer two large King VIP, en-suite staterooms, port and starboard forward. The fourth guest en suite stateroom, port aft; can be configured to accommodate couples or 3 children. The crew cabin, for 3,is in the starboard aft section of the yacht, and has a separate bathroom and kitchenette. Note that each cabin has a separate entrance, offering privacy for everyone aboard.
